Temple of Baal

Temple of Baal

Temple of Baal at Ugarit. Worship of Baal, or Bel, was practised by Syria’s Semitic peoples including the Arameans (who called him Hadad) and the Canaanites, of whom its worship is mentioned in the Bible. Fused into the Greek god Zeus as Zeus-Belo, and later Roman gods - the temple is situated in the shadow of Mount Casius to the north where the god was said to live.
