Technicolor cakes in the Gulestan or Russian bazaar in the center of Ashgabad. Housed in a concrete Soviet-era bunker style building, you can find everything from fresh fruit and vegetables; pomegranates, melons, peaches, apples, tomatoes, radishes, squash, potatoes, carrots and eggplants, to dried apricots, raisins, figs, and walnuts, cakes, pastries, vodka, wine, beer, and fast food such as piroshki and gyros, CD’s, DVD’s, and clothing.
