Qutluq Timur minaret

Qutluq Timur minaret

The tallest minaret in Central Asia at almost 60m (200 ft) tall. Despite its lean it was once even taller. Gutluq Timur lived in the early 14th century and therefore it was always assumed he built it. But it is probably 11th or 12th century and he merely restored it. It is possible it was used as a tower to study the heavens during the city's 'Golden Age' when Urgench was a major center of learning.
