Earthquake Monument

Ashgabad

Located nearby the Arch of Neutrality is the earthquake monument which consists of a black bull with, between his horns, the planet which is being shaken. Amid the resultant rubble a woman holds a gold painted child above the destruction. In 1948 an earthquake which virtually flattened the entire city of Ashgabad killed the president’s mother and two brothers.
