Hand of Fatima tiling

This fish and 'hand of fatima', another protective symbol against the evil eye, is on the other side of the door of the School of Islamic Arts and Crafts. The building was built in 1898 and funded by wealthy Libyan families to educate and train the poor and disadvantaged in ways that would enable them to earn their living. The school still serves to educate boys from poor families, or orphans. It has the dubious distinction of having been visited by Richard Nixon....!
