Me with shisha

Me with shisha

Sharm el-Sheikh

The waterpipe, or shisha, as it is known in Egypt is the local equivalent of a pint. Men smoke the shisha in cafes with their friends over tea and dominoes or backgammon. Women smoke openly in hotel cafes or in places like Sharm - see next photograph - but not in traditional cafes which are the haunt of men only. The most common tobacco is apple mixed with molasses but there are others such as strawberry and cantaloupe.
