Baltim fishing boats

Baltim fishing boats

In summer fishermen use their nets in the normal way - catching buri - a form of grey mullet much prized locally. In winter the fishermen use their nets to trap quail which are very plentiful, (or used to be.) This technique is something you can see in Ancient Egyptian tombs. Ibn Battuta speaks of the local fish called buri as well as the sea-fowl - which are probably a reference to the quail, so some things have not changed in 700 years.
