Bibi Khanum Mosque

One of Tamerlane's last buildings it was supposed to be the greatest expression of his power. But built in a hurry and too monumental for its foundations, shortly after its construction, bits of it kept falling down and landing on the faithful as they were at prayer. Needless to say the populace began to avoid it. Despite extensive renovation of the complex, the mosque itself is still closed.
