Hasik street

Hasik street

Hasik was cut off from the rest of Oman until a few years ago when a road was completed from Salalah. Until then residents had to rely on planes and boats. Even now the road peters out about 6 km from the village. In Ibn Battuta’s day the village was not where it is now - it lay a few kilometers south along the coast at Ras Hasik where stone ruins and gravestones mark the old site - and in a few months time given new government-built houses on the edge of the village, it may be on the move yet again.
