Wall paintings, Chehel Sotun Palace

The interior walls of Chehel Sotun palace are covered in paintings not only showing animals and humans, but in some cases almost naked maidens - something which would certainly not have seen the light of day in 17th century Sunni Islamic centers. However the art of painting was established in Iran before the coming of Islam and they neither accepted nor applied literally the injunction in the Koran against the portayal of the human form.
