Bar'an temple

Bar'an temple

Marib

Recently excavated, new information grows daily about Saba and this temple city of the Sabaean kingdom, home of the legendary Queen of Sheba. This temple, built originally in the 5th century BC is dedicated to the moon god ‘almaqah’, and its five pillars marking the entrance to the temple and inner cella, are the tallest in south Arabia. The temple grounds included a ritual well and altar for sacrifice as well as smaller altars and alabaster benches arranged arcade-like around the inner perimeter walls.
