Frankincense trees


There are nine species of frankincense or Boswellia trees. Located througout Socotra and the southern Arabian peninsula, the aromatic resin from these trees was the basis of trade and huge wealth for many of the South Arabian kingdoms for centuries. This highly-prizedaromatic was sought after by Mesopotamians, Egyptians, Romans and early Christians for ritual or religious use.
